Discovery Process Chemistry

A route that works at 200 mg and will not scale is a cost the program pays later.

Bridging discovery chemistry to process chemistry

We provide research services in rapid scale-up and in condition and process optimization, at the point where a discovery route has to become a process one.

  • Strong capability in new route scouting and process optimization, shortening discovery research cycle times
  • Isolation, characterization, synthesis and control of impurities in process chemistry research and development
  • Validation of synthetic and analytical protocols
  • Stress testing and safety evaluation
  • Smooth technology package and know-how transfer
  • Fast delivery of targets and supply of key intermediates and building blocks
  • Comprehensive platforms (photochemistry, flow chemistry, biocatalysis) supporting the work

The laboratories

Walk-in hoods, large-scale reactors, large-scale purification and flow chemistry reactors.

Process safety assessment laboratory: support for desired and secondary reactions, with DSC, TGA, C80, RC1, TSU and ARC, for thermal screening and reaction characterization.

OEB-4 kilo laboratory: occupational exposure limit of 1 to 10 μg/m³, batches up to 3.0 kg, with low vacuum applied.

GLP analytical laboratory: regulated analytical services, with NMR, LCMS, HPLC, GC, Karl Fischer, HRMS, XRPD and XRSD, TGA, DSC, ICP-MS, and AAS.

What the next stage inherits

The pace that matters is measured from first screening compound to a candidate you can actually develop, which is why discovery chemists here work to the same process standards as the people who will make the kilogram batch.

The technology package that leaves this team is the one the drug substance group starts from.
