Lipid Formulation

For compounds that need a solubilized state through the gut.

Liquid filled hard capsules

Liquid filled hard capsules enhance the bioavailability of poorly soluble compounds in a liquid or semi-liquid formulation.

They suit cases where a conventional dry powder dosage form is unsuitable or impractical: compounds with poor bioavailability, a low melting point, or a low dose and high potency.

They are achievable on conventional pharmaceutical equipment, which means lower cost and quicker development.

Softgel capsules

Softgel is the other lipid delivery option for poorly soluble compounds.

Beyond bioavailability, softgel enables formulation of oily and low melting point compounds, and of compounds needing protection from oxygen, light and moisture.

Clients also select softgel for patient acceptance and for market reasons, including lifecycle extension and differentiation through shape and colour.

Where lipid systems sit against the alternatives

Lipid systems suit compounds that need a solubilized state through the gut; nano suspension suits compounds where dissolution rate rather than solubility is the limit.

Lipid nanoparticles run on the parenteral platform, including for mRNA and DNA payloads.
