Biocatalysis

Enzymatic steps for the selectivity that chemistry struggles with.

The platform

Founded in 2016, the biotransformation platform provides high-throughput enzyme screening, process optimization and enzyme evolution development.

  • More than 1,200 enzymes available in stock
  • Strong technology support across detection, chiral resolution and process considerations
  • A mature workflow with flexible service modes: FTE, fee-for-service and discovery process chemistry
  • Experience in selective ester hydrolysis, asymmetric ketone reduction, asymmetric amine synthesis and asymmetric double bond reduction
  • Capability from gram-scale reaction optimization to kilogram-scale production

Enzyme classes held

  • Hydrolases
  • Ketoreductases
  • Transaminases
  • Amino acid dehydrogenases
  • Amino acid acylases
  • Imine reductases
  • Ene reductases
  • Nitrilases
  • Oxynitrilases
  • Monooxygenases

Why screen rather than design

An enzyme that gives the right enantiomer on a model substrate frequently does not on the real one. With 1,200 enzymes on the shelf, finding the one that works is a screening exercise of days rather than an evolution campaign of months — and where no enzyme in the collection is good enough, evolution is the next step rather than the first.

Discovery Process Chemistry

The same enzyme at manufacturing scale

A biocatalytic step chosen in discovery carries through to drug substance manufacture on the same platform.
